Utilizing our collective strength to ensure access to affordable and fresh food while centering the Black, low-to-moderate-income communities of Central Brooklyn.
The Central Brooklyn Food Cooperative (CBFC) is a Black-led, cooperatively-owned grocery store (opening soon) to create a more just and sustainable food system in Central Brooklyn. We provide affordable, fresh, and culturally-sustaining food to uplift Black food sovereignty and economic self-determination. CBFC is more than a grocery store—it’s a hub for community power.
What is a food cooperative? A food cooperative is a market or grocery store that is owned and controlled by the members–our community–instead of a private cooperation. Business decisions are made democratically by the community who runs and owns the store.
That sounds great! How can I join? Every member-owner pays a one-time investment fee of $125. It can be paid in installments and/or payment can be deferred to a later date. Become a member-owner today.
Is the store open yet? No, not yet. Our store will be on the ground floor of a new building being constructed on the corner of Fulton Street and Saratoga Avenue in Bedstuy/Ocean Hill. However, we are building our membership now so we will have enough community members to run the store.
